An irate mob on Friday staged a "rail roko" at Diva station to protest the police action of removing a hoarding of Dr B R Ambedkar put up near the tracks.
The spontaneous agitation by the local residents disrupted the train traffic during the morning peak hours. It ended when the police intervened and picked up some agitators.
The hoarding was put up by the side of rail tracks in Diva and it was blocking the sight of motormen of suburban trains, police sources said.
The motormen brought the matter to the notice of Railway Police, who reached the spot to remove the hoarding. This was noticed by Ambedkar followers and members of a political party, who raised an alarm, they said.
Soon, a big crowd assembled on the scene and protested on the rail tracks, leading the police to intervene.
Friday being the death anniversary of Ambedkar, posters, banners and hoardings paying tributes to him had been put up across the city of Thane.
