In order to keep mosquitoes at bay, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be spending close to Rs1.37 crore in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) area.

Similarly, MMRDA's official staff quarters 'Jetwan' at BKC too will be getting a new system.

"For the last few years, we have implemented various measures to ensure that mosquito breeding does not happen. One of it is spraying after office hours. The contract is getting over soon and now this is only a process to ensure continuity of anti-mosquito measures," said an MMRDA official.

'Active Screening System' will be put up at Jetwan. As per the system, nozzle spray-enabled equipment will be put up at the residential building that will release liquid creating a curtain for mosquitoes to stay away from the interiors of the premises.

An official explained that the cost of the system is not even 10% of the total cost of the anti-larvae contract.
