In order to direct motorists better, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to have new signages and lane markings on the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
The MMRDA also plans to re-engineer several junctions in WEH to ensure a smooth and hassle-free commute for motorists during peak hours. RA Rajeev, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said, "We expect that installation of signages and lane markings will make the traffic movement smooth considering motorists will be better informed about their location, and where and when they have to take a turn towards their destination."
Rajeev said MMRDA is also planning to decongest all the junctions of the WEH in order to make them signal-free. "Having underground tunnels is one of the ways how we can decongest the junctions of WEH. We will appoint a consultant who will suggest a plan to make the junctions free of signals," Rajeev added.
Currently, the MMRDA is maintaining the stretch of the WEH between Dahisar and Andheri where the construction of Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7 is going on, while the stretch between Andheri and Bandra is maintained by the Public Works Department (PWD).
According to the MMRDA officials, senior officials from the Mumbai Traffic Police and MMRDA had a round of meetings recently wherein several measures to ensure smooth traffic movement on the WEH was discussed.
Apart from this, Rajeev said many offices in BKC have adopted staggered timings. He also asserted that the MMRDA aims to complete civil construction work on time and meet deadlines.
