The process to have a detailed survey has been launched by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to identify the total number of families and commercial establishments that will be affected by the construction the recently approved Metro rail projects in the western suburbs.
There are two metro lines that is planned in the western suburbs, namely, Dahisar East-Andheri East (Metro-7) and Dahisar-DN Nagar (Metro 2A).
Though the development authority last year had got the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared for the metro rail corridors from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), these reports do not mention a detailed account of properties and plots on which the Metro line will pass on.
Despite not having a detailed account of the affected structures and trees, the MMRDA-DMRC went ahead in floating tenders to award civil work contracts for both the lines.
Therefore, a fresh survey has been launched. "There are around 150-odd structures, including commercial and residential on both the lines that will have to be rehabilitated to have elevated metro lines," said a senior MMRDA official.
This survey would include classification of encroachment versus legal tenements affected by the metro line construction work, size of each tenement, their eligibility, if it is commercial, residential or a mix of both among others.
The other point will be to have a tree mapping done, which means the species of trees, height, etc. will also be included in the survey that will either have to be hacked, trimmed or transplanted.
The Metro-7 route will have 16 stations on its 16.5km-long corridor and the estimated completion cost is Rs6,208 crore, whereas Metro-2A corridor will have 17 stations on its 18.60km alignment and will be erected at an estimated completion cost of Rs6410 crore.
The deadline for both these corridors has been set at March 2019.
