MLA held for Ghatkopar riots

The Pant Nagar police on Monday arrested MLA Prakash Mehta of BJP and 15 others, including Congress corporator Pravin Chedda and former BJP corporator Balchandra Kshirsat, for rioting and manhandling policemen. The incident had occurred about year ago after a mob consisting of the accused had set a towing van ablaze following a road mishap in which 45-year-old Kirti Mehta died.  

The mishap had occurred at Damji Shamji Shah chowk in Ghatkopar (E) on November 4, 2011. Mehta was mowed down by the towing van. 

A police officer said that the arrests came after a year as the police were gathering evidence against the accused.
