After completion of the first round of the 'Mission Indradhanush' initiative in April this year, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started with phase four, round two on Monday to immunise children below the age of five.

Mission Indradhanush is a central government project launched by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for children who missed out on immunisation due to various reasons like migration, lack of awareness etc. Under phase four, 9,620 children were identified in April (round one) of which 6,355 children were immunised. In round two which will be conducted from May 8 to May 16, BMC has identified 8,265 children from urban slums, tribal areas, and construction areas.

'Mission Indradhanush' will be conducted from April to July.

Speaking about the project, Dr Padmaja Keskar, Executive Health Officer, BMC, said, "In the first round, 1,506 children were fully immunised. We have 564 health posts set up in different parts of the city to identify children who have missed out on immunisation. We aim to complete the immunisation of unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children and pregnant women by 2020."
