After news of the Kalyan youth, allegedly fighting alongside ISIS in Iraq, dying due to bombing reached the community, members said they wouldn't accept the information as conclusive. It is being suspected that the youths left after they were indoctrinated.

Terming the possibility as unconfirmed, members of the Muslim community dna spoke with said there needs to be some more information on the issue. Calling the entire episode as something that makes "little sense" to one that is still not "proven", they called for an official statement from the government.

"According to the information we got, the war in Iraq did not even start when the boys went there. They went in May, the ISIS entered Iraq only on June 3," said Maulana Hakim Mehmood Dariyabadi, member of the All-India Ulema Council.

"While we don't know what exactly happened there, thought should be given to the possibility that the boys went for work."

Maulana Mustaqeem Azmi, president of the Jamiat Ulema e Hind, Maharashtra unit, was of similar view. "It makes little sense that a person goes from here all the way to Iraq to fight. A person can be driven by hunger and go looking for a job. His family has said that was the case," said Azmi.

Maulana Moinuddin Ashraf said ISIS is a terrorist organisation and has nothing to do with any religion. "No religion can harbour terrorist in its fold, and the acts of ISIS are those of a terrorist organisation. If the boy actually ended up being with them, it is unfortunate. It can only be condemned. But we were of the view that it is a farzi haua (fake demon on the community)," said Ashraf.
