More than 25 days after a 20-year-old student from IIT, Kanpur went missing, his kin from Badlapur have now demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.

Parents and friends of Akshay Kamble, who went missing from the institute on November 25, said that they are not satisfied with the pace of inquiry by the local police and demanded a CBI probe in the case. "It's been too long since we registered an official police complaint and it's extremely sad that there are no leads whatsoever. The cops haven't made any arrests and haven't even summoned some of the key witnesses in the case for interrogation," said Bhimrao Kamble, Akshay's father.

Bhimrao said that it took the Kalyanpur cops more than ten days to visit the nearby hotels and search if Akshay had checked into any of those. "We are collating information at our level, looking at CCTV cameras and any possible records. Why can't the cops do this," he asked.

Meanwhile, student groups across IITs are planning to write to the IIT Council to look into the issue. "We are planning to request the council to form an inquiry committee to look into what might have led to the sudden missing of this student," said an MPhil student from IIT Bombay.

Parents of Aniket Ambhore, a 22-year-old student from IIT Bombay who died after falling off the terrace in 2014, have also come in support of the family. "IITs should introspect as to what goes wrong with such bright students and should look into the issues that they might be facing," said Sunita Ambhore, Aniket's mother.
