A Kalyan pharmacist’s car was looted and his laptop bag stolen on Friday evening. Bipin Jain, 37, had gone to grab a bite in his store near Mahavir Shopping Centre in Agra Road, Kalyan when the incident took place. Hard cash to the tune of Rs65,000, that was in the laptop bag, was stolen.
The robbery happened in under 10 minutes and Jain was informed about it only when his colleague came to the store and inquired about his car’s broken window. “I was carrying so much money because I had to give it to somebody for some work. That evening, after parking my car hardly 100 meters from the shop, I took my tiffin and went to eat, with the thought that I’ll give the money later. After my colleague came and informed me about my car’s broken window, I immediately went to check. On reaching the parking spot, I discovered that the car’s backseat window was broken and all the valuables were missing,” said Jain.
He then lodged a complaint with the Kasarvadavali police. The bag also contained some important legal documents, which prompted Jain to walk for nearly two kilometres from the site where his car was parked, in the hope that the robbers would have thrown the documents on the road. But he didn’t find anything.
“I have not informed anyone about the incident, not even my family members. I am still in shock over how I lost my valuables in a matter of minutes. It was no small amount and my hard-earned money. While I’m not hopeful about recovering it, I hope I at least get my documents back,” added Jain.
A police official from Kasarvadavli police station said, “We have registered a case of robbery and are investigating to find out who is behind this.” A case under sections 379 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (revolving around dacoity and robbery) has been registered.
