Minor's statement puts rapist father behind bars

The statement of a 14-year-old rape victim helped the prosecution push her 47-year-old father behind the bars. The girl's father had raped her for four consecutive years.

The father was serving jail term due to various criminal records and used to assault the child whenever out on bail or on furlough. The court presided over by judge Surekha Patil sentenced the man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000 which will be given to the victim as a compensation amount.

"The girl was facing the dastardly act right since she was nine," Special public prosecutor, Jyoti Sawant told DNA.

She added, "The girl was very specific while deposing the details. Her statement ensured that her father was punished."
