Minor raped, body found in dustbin at Govandi

A twelve-year old girl who was missing since Saturday evening was found murdered in Bainganwadi area of Govandi on Sunday morning. The police suspect that she was raped before being strangled and dumped.

According to the Shivaji Nagar police, the teenager left her house in Govandi at 5pm on Saturday and was missing since. Her parents, who are labourers, started searching for her, but to no avail.The police claim that her parents approached them at half past midnight on Sunday, following which a case was registered at the Shivaji Nagar police station.

The girl's body was found dumped in a dustbin near Ambedkar garden in Bainganwadi area. Her limbs were tied and there were strangulation marks on her neck, as well as bruises on her body. Her body was wrapped in a mat and thrown in the dustbin.

"A man spotted the body at around 5pm after which we were informed," said Dhanraj Gaikwad, senior police inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station. The parents were then informed, and identified her body.

The area is known to be frequented by drug addicts and the police have picked up a few suspects for interrogation.

The police have registered a case under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping) and 376 (rape), along with relevant sections of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
