A 17-year-old college girl committed suicide at her Santa Cruz (East) resident on Tuesday. The deceased left a note in which she stated that two men had raped her on separate occasions. According to the police, one of the persons accused by the girl is her brother-in-law while the other is a senior in her college.

According to Vakola police, in 2011, the victim had visited her elder sister in Uttar Pradesh and stayed with her for a month and a half. Her brother-in-law Ramlekh Kanaujia had allegedly raped her then. She had narrated her ordeal to her sister, but the latter chose to ignore the incident.

Back in Mumbai, the traumatised girl, a first-year student of a degree college, confided her ordeal to her senior Abhisekh Dixit. "Dixit promised to marry her and got physically intimate with her on several occasions," said an officer from Vakola police station.

On Tuesday, around 7:30pm, the girl was found hanging at her residence at Madraswadi. She lived with her mother and brother. The brother of the victim saw the body and alerted his mother and the police.
The neighbours rushed the victim to the hospital where she was declared dead before admission.

The police, while carrying out a search at the victim's house, recovered a one-page note written in Hindi. "We have registered a case under sections 306 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Kanuajia, Dixit and the victim's sister. Kanaujia and Dixit have been arrested but the victim's sister is yet to be arrested," the officer said.
