Wadala TT police are on the lookout for an unidentified man who had allegedly raped and kidnapped a nine-year old girl. The minor was bursting firecrackers when she was abducted by the accused.
According to the police, the girl, a student of class five, was celebrating Diwali by bursting crackers and playing with her brother near her home around 11.30pm when the incident occurred. Her father runs a sweet shop in Antop Hill area.
"Her brother suddenly realised she was nowhere to be seen and then informed his parents about the same. The family then began a search for the girl in the vicinity. An hour later, the minor returned home and told her parents that an unknown man aged around 25 years abducted her, took her to an isolated place and violated her," senior police inspector Suhas Garud of Wadala TT police station.
The officer added that the family then went to the police station and an offence under IPC sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation), as well as relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against an unknown person.
The girl was later taken to Sion hospital for medical examination. She has provided a description of the suspect to the police. "People with criminal background are being questioned in this regard. All efforts will be made to trace the accused," Garud said.
