City residents and residents of Thane, Kalyan and Navi Mumbai are unlikely to get their share of Amul and Gokul brand milk packets from today after the Thane district's milk distribution association decided to boycott the brands.

The distributors have been seeking an increase in commission rate and the Thane City Milk Business Welfare Association's boycott comes after it gave time to five companies — Amul, Gokul, Mother Dairy, Mahananda and Warna — to increase the same from 1-2 per cent to at least 7-8 per cent. The had been agitating against the companies since April 22. As the boycott intensified across Mumbai, the big milk brands sought 15 days from the vendors association to look into the matter and assured them that their commission rate would be increased.

"Mother Dairy, Warna and Mahananda have agreed to give us an increased commission of 7-8 oer cent," said Pandurang Chodnekar, joint secretary of the Thane City Milk Business Welfare Association. "Gokul and Amul are still not ready to shell out anything more. Hence we have decided to boycott these two milk brands."

The boycott will start from Thane and spread to Dombivli, Kalyan, Panvel, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. In Thane, the areas near the station, such as Charai, Khopat, Panchpakhadi and Naupada will be most affected while Pokharan Road and Ghodbunder road areas will be least affected.

Incidentally, while the association has been demanding higher commission rates, the heat is gradually turning on them as people have been complaining about being overcharged for milk packets. Thane's measures and weight department has received more than 200 complaints about the same recently.
