The boycott of five major milk brands — Amul, Warna, Mother Dairy, Gokul and Mahananda — has come to an end. These brands will be readily available at all retailers and vendors across Thane from May 2.

Thane City Milk Business Welfare Association (TCMBWA) has come to an understanding with the companies concerned and agreed to call off the boycott. The association's joint secretary PD Chodnekar confirmed:

"Representatives from all five brands have spoken to me over phone and asked for 15 days to sort out the matter. They have assured me that they would increase our commission and if they fail to do so, then we are free to take steps."

TCMBWA's boycott, which started on April 22 in Thane, was in demand for more commission for the vendors. The boycott had spread to Diva, Mumbra, Dombivli, New Mumbai and even Mumbai.

According to Chodnekar, the company representatives have assured that the commission would be hiked by 5-6%. "Hence, we have called off the boycott and normal supply of all brands will be restored."

Thanekars have had a tough time managing without their favourite milk brands all these days. Shrishti Das, a Thane resident, said: "It's a good news. All these days I have craved for my brand."

Sudhir Jorwekar, inspector in the weights and measures department in Konkan Bhawan, said. "The end of boycott has got nothing to do with overcharging by the vendors and retailers. We would take action against those who are overcharging. We have been encouraging people to complaint about the culprits."
