Shiv Sena leader and chairman of the Mumbai Repair and Reconstruction Board of MHADA Vinod Ghosalkar has written to the mayor and the municipal commissioner asking the BMC to give Rs 70 crore to the board.

The reason behind the demand was cited that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is supposed to give Rs 10 crore every year to MHADA's Repair Board for the cessed building. However, Ghosalkar has alleged that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA )hasn't received this fund for the last seven years and hence he has written this letter to the civic body.

The mayor, Prof Vishwanath Mahadeshwar is also from Shiv Sena, and the BMC is also run by Sena. A senior official from MHADA says that they are expecting that both the sides being with the same party the money might soon come to them.

According to the letter written by Ghosalkar, according to the MHADA Act of 1976, there's a section under which MHADA is to get Rs 10 crore every year from the BMC for the cessed building. "As per section 97 of MHADA Act, every year MHADA is to get Rs 10 crore, but from 2012 till now the money hasn't been received," read the letter.

When contacted Ghosalkar, he confirmed writing of the letter to the mayor and the commissioner of the BMC. He said, "This is a mandatory provision and we are to get the money for these seven years and hence I wrote to the mayor and the BMC. I am yet to receive a reply from them on the same. But this money has to come to us."

When asked if both mayor and he being from Sena will help to get the money, he said, "The question here is not about which party we belong to, this money belongs to MHADA's Repair board and hence we have asked for it and BMC has to give it to us."

There are 14,283 cessed building in the city, of which 12,029 buildings are in the A category, which means they are dangerous to stay in. About 800 buildings were repaired in the last one year that needed 10, 20 or up to 50 per cent repair.
