For every tenement that Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is selling this year, there are an average of 119 applications. This average is expected to go up as the final figure of total applications with paid deposits comes in.

There are a total of 972 homes that are being sold through lottery draw process. Tuesday was the last day to pay the deposit amount via online banking, whereas Wednesday was the D-day for payment by Demand Drafts.

As per the statistics made available by MHADA officials on Wednesday evening, there were a total of 1,15,751 applications for which deposits were paid. Overall MHADA has received 1,69,702 applications. "As per the trend, people do not pay deposit amount for all the applications filled. There are various reasons like they falling short of funds, filling of wrong or additional forms, etc." said an official.

However, the final figure of total deposits-applications received is likely to touch around 1,25,000. "The final figure will be available only on Thursday morning as various branches of banks will collate the data and then share it with us," said a spokesperson of MHADA.

The average of 119 applications per home has been arrived at after having clubbed applications from all the income groups. The actual average per income group and each housing project location will vary.

With having closed acceptance of applications and partially refundable deposit amount, in the next few days the MHADA authorities is likely to come out with the list of rejected applications. These rejections are on various grounds like multiple applications in the same scheme code (same location), applications by an individual in multiple income groups, incomplete information, home owners applying for MHADA apartments, etc.

The housing lottery draw will be held on August 10 at Rangsharda Auditorium at Bandra Reclamation. Unsuccessful applicants will start receiving refund of deposits after 10 days from the lottery draw.
