MGM New Bombay Hospital, Vashi hold seminar on World Kidney Day

MGM New Bombay Hospital, Vashi, organised a special seminar on the occasion of 'World Kidney Day' to create awareness about the chronic kidney disease. The information-packed seminar was attended by more than 50 senior doctors and medical students.

World Kidney Day is celebrated on the second Thursday of March every year and this year it was marked on March 13. The theme for this year's World Kidney Day was geriatrics (branch of medicine dealing with the health of older/senior citizen) and the population suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) associated with multiple health problems.

MGM New Bombay Hospital, Vashi, which has been working for medical social cause, organiaed this seminar along with Mumbai Nephrology Group (MNG) and Indian Medical Association, Navi Mumbai.
The hospital has already performed 14 kidney transplants, out of which, seven were cadaver cases and the remaining seven were live cases. The transplants were done within a period of two-and-a-half years, after obtaining permission under the Human Organ Transplant,1994 (HOTA) Act, from the director of health services, Maharashtra state govt. "This hospital helps the society in the form of concession on treatment as well as continuing the process for teaching the doctors of Navi Mumbai, thereby leaving no stone unturned for social activities like awareness programmes," said Dr Kalyani Sen, medical superintendent of MGM New Bombay Hospital, Vashi.

She added the seminar was well-attended by a large number of senior medical consultants from different hospitals, medical institutes, private practicing doctors and medical students.
