To make commuters travel hassle free, Mumbai Metro One has come up with share a cab initiative along with a private cab service - Ola. The service will launch at three metro stations – Ghatkopar, Saki Naka and Western Express Highway on Monday, October 24.

While as a pilot project, the authority will launch the service at the three busiest stations in metro line one, it will soon be expanded to 10 other stations.

According to the metro authority, a survey was carried out two weeks ago where the commuters had given a good response to have a hot-spot cab facilities outside the station during the metro working hours.

Speaking about the last mile connectivity, Mumbai Metro One authority, said: “Through this service, the commuters can look at the hotspot boundary visible on the app and book the shared cab as soon as they get out of the metro train. The app will also guide them at which gate the cab will be arriving. Within few minutes the commuters depart from the designated hotspot at the station. This initiative will help the commuters to have a comfortable, quick and readily-available option to go to their final destination.”

Even if the service is shareable, the first passenger will set the route to his destination. The service is Rs 3 per kilometre. If another commuter does not agree with the route, he can choose another cab instead.

“We have 18% growth in the commuters. While, over 3.55 lakh commuters ride every weekday in the metro, footfall of commuters travelling from Ghatkopar to Saki Naka is 30 thousand while that of Andheri to Saki Naka is over 25 thousand in the weekdays. Major people are office-goers,” said the authority.

As per the survey, the popular routes for which the commuters use metro one services are Ghatkopar to Saki Naka and Saki Naka to Andheri.

According to the survey, commuters have chosen the new service majorly to go to –

* Ghatkopar metro station to Navi Mumbai, Thane, Bhandup and Vikroli

* Saki Naka metro station to Chandivali, Powai, Kurla

* Western Express Highway metro station to Goregaon, Oberoi and MIDC
