With chief minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis giving his approval to the 32km-long Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli Metro line (Metro-4) on Friday, the state is now aiming at executing the corridor. The CM's nod came at a meeting with top MMRDA officials.

The Metro-4 project will be completely elevated instead of partially going underground in the Thane region as was planned earlier. In all, there will be 32 stations along the corridor and its car depot will be located at Owale in the Ghodbunder Road area, spread over 30 hectares. To be completed in 2021, cost of the project has been estimated at Rs14,549 crore instead of the earlier Rs19,097 crore.

Stations on the Metro-4 corridor will be located at Bhakti Park Metro, Wadala Truck Terminal, Anik Nagar Bus Depot, Suman Nagar, Siddharth Colony, Amar Mahal Junction, Garodia Nagar, Pant Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Shreyas Cinema, Godrej Company, Vikhroli Metro, Surya Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Naval Housing, Bhandup Mahapalika, Bhandup Metro, Shangrila, Sonapur, Mulund Fire Station, Mulund Naka, Teen Haath Naka (Thane), RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Cadbury Junction, Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikuji-ni-wadi, Dongri Pada, Vijay Garden and Kasarvadavali.

"We have now recommended the project to the state government for final approval," said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson for MMRDA.

The earlier plan of partially underground Metro-4 line was approved by CM Fadnavis on November 20, 2014 in the Authority meeting but the plans remained on paper and has now been revised.

Meanwhile, MMRDA has already begun implementation of Dahisar-Charkop-DN Nagar Metro-2A and Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7. Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 is being taken up by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).

In order to connect the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) with the Metro network, the next Metro line, which is likely to see rounds of approval and execution, would run between Thane and Kalyan via Bhiwandi.
