In a major relief to MMRC for the construction of Vidhan Bhavan Metro station at Nariman Point, all three major political parties -- Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena – have shifted their offices to different locations after the MMRC offered to pay rent for their offices. The MMRC has been having a tough time shifting party offices temporarily as leaders from all the parties were reluctant citing that the Nariman Point offices are closer to the Mantralaya, and saves their time commuting between the two locations.
An MMRC official, said, “All offices have shifted. NCP also recently shifted their office to Ballard Estate. We have also started with civil construction after the party offices shifted. The Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) are yet to shift out of their office space. We are currently holding dialogue with MAT officials, and they too will soon shift.”
Since 2015, the MMRC has been in touch with political parties who had refused to vacate the premises. Subsequently, the MMRC had, in December 2016, had also served notices to the Congress NCP and Shiv Sena from Nariman Point for the construction of the metro station for the proposed Colaba-Seepz Metro 3 underground corridor.
Apart from the three parties, the offices of Samajwadi Partyy, Republican Party of India, and Shetkari Kamgar Party were also to be shifted.
