The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has floated the tender to construct car depot at Aarey Colony for Mumbai's third metro rail—between Colaba and SEEPZ via Bandra—which will be underground.

An MMRCL statement, issued on Saturday, said: "In a bid to speed up the work on the ambitious Metro-3 project, MMRCL has floated a tender worth Rs 129.32 crore for civil and other development work at the Metro Car Depot at Aarey Colony, Goregaon."

After the unpleasant experience during the construction and post-inauguration of the first metro line between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar, the state govt had decided to construct this 32.5km-long metro rail on a cash-contract basis.

In all, tenders for three works have been floated. "The first work is the construction of the boundary retaining wall, reinforced cement concrete storm water drain, and the development of the ground at Metro Line-3 Car Depot. The estimated cost is Rs 109.80 crore. It's expected to be completed in 24 months," said the statement.

An estimated Rs 7.88 crore will be required for the construction of the Playback Training Room building, which will be a 3-storied structure. The third work, realigning 1200mm and 600mm diameter water supply lines that presently pass from the car depot land, will involve an outlay of Rs 11.64 crore.

The Colaba-SEEPZ underground metro will comprise 27 stations; only Goregaon station will be at the ground level. The construction will take place at 15-25 meters depth. Construction on the 32.5km stretch will be carried out simultaneously in seven packages.
