Offices of political parties and government departments that would be demolished for the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro rail's Vidhan Bhavan station are likely to be relocated by May 1, well within 5 kms of Mantralaya.

Government offices will be shifted to Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) and World Trade Centre.

But parties want their offices to be moved to the ground floor of alternative sites and not to higher floors.

According to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), there are 26 government offices and eight party offices near the station.

Representatives of 14 government offices and six parties attended a meeting with MMRC and officials from other state departments and extended their cooperation.

Among the parties which attended the meeting were Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Republican Party of India, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena and Shetkari Kamgar Party.

"Parties are fine with moving to another location near Mantralaya, but they want their premises to be on the ground floor with parking spaces because of the high footfall of political workers," said an official.

"Parties also suggested that since their offices are flanked by common men, it will be advisable to locate their offices near Mantralaya and they will make a proposal to this effect to the General Administration Department, which, in turn, will facilitate a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis," said Ashwini Bhide, MD, MMRC.

MTNL, BSNL, MbPT and World Trade Centre offices are spread out at Colaba, Hutatma Chowk, Malabar Hill and Cuffe Parade.

"With a positive response from parties and government departments, I am sure the entire construction of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor will now be completed within time," said Bhide.
