Metro 3: MMRCL burns midnight oil, irks Churchgate residents

The residents of Churchgate's J Tata Road were forced to call up Marine Drive police after the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) continued construction work on Metro 3 work till midnight on Thursday. According to a Bombay High Court order, the MMRCL has been restrained from carrying out any construction or ancillary work on Metro-3 from 10 pm to 6 am.

Nina Verma, a resident of Ravindra Mansion in Churchgate said, "Around 11.30 pm on Wednesday the noise of Metro construction was excessive and very frustrating. Many residents came downstairs and asked the workers to stop the machinery work which was creating noise pollution but the work did not stop. Finally, we called up the Marine drive police station around 11.45 pm. The police came at 12 midnight and the work stopped at 12.15 am".

"It amounts to contempt of court orders. The High Court has restrained MMRCL from carrying out construction work after 10 pm. We thank Marine drive police for prompt action. We will attach our complaint letters to the petition filed by Robin Jaisinghania in the Bombay High Court against noise pollution due to Metro work, and present it at the next hearing".

An officer from Marine Drive police station said, "We have not received any court orders to stop construction work after 10 pm. But we got calls from residents complaining about noise pollution due to metro work. To solve residents complaint, we went on the spot and stopped the work."
