A team of experts from Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be coming to the city from Delhi next week to study the challenges faced by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for constructing DN Nagar-BKC-Mandale Metro 2B corridor.

Considering the Metro-2B corridor will run parallel to the funnel zone of the Juhu aerodrome, the height of the elevated Metro corridor will have to be altered as the aerodrome consists of an emergency runway. It is also one of the busiest heliports in the country.

UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said, “We are constantly in touch with AAI officials, and next week, a team of experts from AAI are visiting the city to study the feasible options for the same. We had also given a proposal for having at grade (on ground) near the Juhu aerodrome but that is not feasible and even they know that.” Madan added: “We are working at the height alterations and a solution for the same would be coming soon in the form of no objection certificate (NOC) from AAI.

DNA had reported on July 31 about how MMRDA still lacks a crucial nod from the AAI.

As per MMRDA, AAI nod will be crucial to start civil construction work on the corridor as part of the alignment passes via the funnel zone area of the Juhu aerodrome.
