Mechanic dies after head gets stuck in lift

A mechanic died in a freak accident while repairing a lift in a building in Kandivali (East) on Thursday.

The incident happened around 4pm when Prakash Jha was on the first floor of Pratik building (C-wing) at Thakur Village repairing the lift. Jha’s head got stuck in the door of the lift when it shut suddenly. Residents tried to get him out but he had succumbed to the impact.

Jha was rushed to Bhagwati hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The police have sent his body for post-mortem and registered a case of accidental death. Jha was the regular lift mechanic of the building

The police have not found any foul play in the case till now. “Jha died in an accident. He was the permanent lift mechanic of the building. He is a resident of the same area and his family has been informed about the incident,” said senior  inspector, Nanasaheb Kamble from the Samta Nagar police station.
