The Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) court on Wednesday framed charges against gangster Chhota Rajan, who was arrested for his alleged prime involvement in the murder of a crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey (JDey). The gangster, however, pleaded not guilty, and thus he will fight for his innocence.

The gangster who is currently lodged in Tihar jail was produced before the court presided over by judge Samir Adkar via video conferencing. The court informed the accused that he was charged with sections of conspiracy and murder.

According to the charge sheet filed against Rajan, the prime motive behind Rajan killing JDey was that the scribe was trying to demean the gangster in one of his books that he was writing, by listing him among the chindi gangsters, while glorifying Dawood Ibrahim.

Statements of 41 new witnesses have been recorded in the document. Meanwhile, the CBI has added Ravi Ram Rateshwar as a wanted accused in the charge sheet. The agency said that Rateshwar was accused of supplying 20 global sim cards to other accused on the behest of Rajan.

The document also mentions that Rajan while speaking about the incident to one of his men, had claimed that scribe Jigna Vora had allegedly instigated him for killing Dey.

Dey, a veteran crime reporter, was shot dead near his residence at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai on June 11, 2011, by motorcycle-borne shooters allegedly at Rajan's command.

Four persons on two bikes fired at Dey, who was also riding a bike. After the attack, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
