Mazgaon residents troubled with BMC's debris dumping

The residents of Nesbit Road, Mazgaon have been troubled for a over a month due to debris being dumped in their area. In fact the debris are dumped at a place they beautified and put up a flagpole so that the national flag is unfurled and people are wary of throwing garbage. What upset the residents further was that for some of the times, a vehicle bearing a BMC placard dumped the debirs.

"The debris have been around for the past two months now. There is BMC chowky adjoining which refused to store its stuff inside and used to put it outside. Now for over two months, somebody has started dumping debris. We try to maintain cleanliness in the area as per Swachcha Bharat scheme and have even planted trees. We have written a complaint at the society level to BMC and police but the debris continue to be there. They are very hesitant for some reason to act. Because of the debris, some people passing by have now started to put dump other kinds of garbage too," said Yusuf Bootwala, resident of Sarkar I building, Nesbit Road.

Another resident said that even though the adjoining societies have been keeping a watch and telling those duMping debris to not do the same, it has not stopped. "Yesterday IT to was people who were from the BMC who had done this. When we told them not to do, they said do what you want to do. With a lot of follow up with a previous corporator we managed to ensure that the place is not a garbage dump. However, with debris it is becoming the same," said Mufazzal Shakir, another resident of Sarkar II building on Nesbit Road.
