A day after Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar visited some major nullahs in the western suburbs to check the status of desilting, BJP MLA Ameet Satam, too, inspected his constituencies — Juhu and Andheri West. After his visit, Satam said, "The major nullahs have been cleaned well and claimed that there will be no water logging in his constituency this monsoon".

Speaking to DNA, Satam said, "The Mayor is the first citizen of the city and should ensure that the municipal corporation does its work properly. By pointing at the on going metro work for flooding the city, he has unnecessarily politicised it. Instead of politicising the issue, the Mayor should see that BMC completes 100 per cent desilting work before deadline, which is the only way to prevent water logging."

Mahadeshwar had commented on Wednesday while inspecting the nullas in the western suburbs that only 40 to 50 per cent desilting has been done and BMC needs to buckle up. But, if Mumbai floods this monsoon, it will be due to haphazard metro work, the Mayor had asserted.

The areas Satam visited on Thursday were Oshiwara nullah, Lalubhai Park nullah, and Abhishek nullah.

"I can promise, my constituencies Juhu and Andheri West won't be waterlogged this monsoon. I have personally monitored if desilting is being done properly along with four local corporators. If the Mayor feels that Metro work will cause flooding this year, then why did Mumbai see so many floods in the past? Metro work has started recently and Mumbai has been flooding for ages, which is only because of improper nullah cleaning, narrow rivers, and un-operational pumps," Satam added.

On the other hand, BMC administration is claiming that around 65 per cent desilting is already done and will complete remaining before rains start.
