Escalated difference of opinions has brought both Shiv Sena and BJP on road — literally. Both parties arranged a visit of Western Express Highway to see the status of roads, but separately.

Briefly after Mumbai mayor Snehal Ambekar visited the Western Express Highway, BJP leaders also visited the same stretch. Western Express Highway is riddled with potholes where citizens have to go through back-breaking journey and travel on pock marked roads, spending hours in traffic jams. Both parties accused each other for the poor state of road.

Ambekar along with Sena leaders visited the Western Express Highway — the stretch between Bandra Kherwadi junction and Dahisar in western suburbs. She criticised the state agencies for bad roads and potholes leading to traffic jams lasting for hours forcing the tax payers to go through harrowing time.

She also criticised the sorry state of roads under Public Works Department (PWD) of the state government and said agencies like PWD and MMRDA should display their names on signage on the roads under their jurisdiction so that citizens would know whom to blame for the potholes as citizens have a notion that only BMC is responsible for roads in entire city.

Ambekar along with other Sena leaders pointed out the areas where there were potholes, craters and undulating surface on the road to officials from PWD present at the time.

Mayor asked the PWD, MMRDA to pull up their socks and start working towards providing better roads to citizens. Mayor has also asked the state agencies to put signage of authorities on the roads under their jurisdiction so that residents would know which agencies to blame.

She explained the purpose of the visit to media and said that other roads apart from BMC jurisdiction also has lots of potholes and the condition of roads is bad. "I wanted to bring that fact to the light," said Ambekar.

Meanwhile, Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar and PWD minister Chandrakantdada Patil visited the same stretch and alleged that it was the Sena-led BMC who at the last minute refused to take over the roads which the state government wanted to handover. BJP leaders claimed that since the process of taking over the roads was "delayed" by BMC deliberately the State Government did not have time to allocate funds for road repairs.

However, the minister has assured that by next Friday the PWD owned roads will be repaired and motorable. BJP leaders also claimed that Western Express Highway will be made into a model road.
