Residents of Matunga are set to enjoy a day out this Sunday. They have formed a group – One Matunga – to organise a monthly event to build team spirit among the locals. The event will be organised between Kings Circle flyover – Maheswari Udyan and Ruia Junction on a stretch of 600 meters, where more than 5,000 people are expected to participate.
Nikhil Desai, a civic activist from the area, said that a ten-member group has come up with the idea of bringing children and parents out of their homes to enjoy games which were played by earlier generations.
He added: "The aim is to keep children as well as parents away from gadgets and computers, and get them to play outdoor games, to inculcate team spirit in them and make new friends in their own neighbourhood. This event will eventually be held once in a month."
The events will boast of different programmes charted out each time. Residents will also receive tips of power yoga and traditional yoga, in addition to sessions of a laughter club. Dance academies in the area will get the residents grooving on a few Bollywood-style moves. "The event will be non-commercial and will cater to all age groups. There will medical check up camps for residents too", said Desai.
