Maratha quota stir: MLA's home stoned, protesters lathi-charged, CM Devendra Fadnavis effigy nearly burnt

The focus of Wednesday's bandh was Mumbai metropolitan area. But other districts also saw violent demonstrations.

SATARA

Protesters hit Pune-Satara highway and attacked public buses. Police had to restore to lathi charge to disperse the mob but it only got violent and pelted stones at the cops. Superintendent of police Sandeep Patil sustained minor injuries after which the cops fired tear gas to clear the highway. Political leaders were not spared either. When NCP MLA Shivendra Raje Bhosale tried to address a rally, he was not allowed to deliver his speech
by the crowd.

BEED

BJP MLA Laxman Pawar had to face the ire of protesters, who pelted stones at his house and his office in Georai area here. Protesters staged a dharna outside his house in the morning, after which Pawar came out and discussed their issues. But when he returned to his house, they threw stones at his house.

AHMEDNAGAR

The incidents of violent protest could be seen in Ahmednagar district also. Protesters had hit the streets in the morning and they blocked the highways passing through the district. Anticipating that the protesters might target, public transport buses, not a single bus was taken out of the depot by the transport department in the district. The protesters however, torched a four wheeler belonged to forest department in Karjat town of the district. Protesters also targeted some shops at the railway station where stones were pelted at shops and they were forcefully shut down.

PUNE

In Baramati taluka, protesters took out a rally and tried to set afire an effigy of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis when the cops stopped them. Public buses near Survad village were stoned. In Pune Municipal Corporation, ruled by BJP, opposition parties raised slogans in support of the agitation during a general body meeting. Corporators from opposition parties accused the BJP of adjourning the house to avoid facing the issue.

NASHIK

Protesters resorted to violence to enforce the bandh. They gathered at Bytco point and Datta Mandir and some pelted stones at shops and ATMs. Police dispersed the crowd.

THANE

Protesters managed to shut shops, stop public transport, and force people to stay indoors. Two municipal buses were stoned in Wagle Estate, so was a police van. Windowpanes of cars were broken.
