Manju Yagnik, who was a national hockey player, has made her mark in the male-dominated real estate sector. It is, in fact, a feat for someone who does not have any architectural or engineering background.

Manju, who came to the city from Haryana 25 years ago, says the coming century belongs to women. She currently holds the post of vice chairman in Nahar Group.

According to her, although there's 99% males in the real estate sector, it is changing gradually and women are creating their own space in it. "When I joined this industry, it was disorganised. I learned a lot of things in the 25-year-long journey. Each day is a new day for me. Now, people are openly accepting women as leaders and women are getting a lot of opportunities to handle various responsibilities. Women have the innate qualities of managing any business. It is my belief that no one can handle business better than women. And if there is zest and commitment to do something, then no one can stop us," said Manju.

The real estate sector is a passion for her. "I was very much fascinated by this sector because it provides people their dream homes. Buying a house is not only a financial decision but there's emotional attachment to it as well. Giving someone his or her dream home gives me a lot of satisfaction. We have successfully launched projects at Chennai, Mumbai and its suburbs," she added.

Manju said that initially capital investors were quite reluctant to invest their money under a woman's leadership. "They felt it is sort of a risk. Once things started getting brighter under our leadership, people changed their mindset. But despite all this success, even today there are still some grey areas such as the government authorities and its various agencies. Sometime, it is a tough task to deal with people from these these sectors. But we do manoeuvre and develop projects. And the coming century belongs to women. I am confident that women will make their mark successfully," she added.
