Colaba Police along with Enforcers Of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR) seized counterfeit Canon products worth Rs 2.29 lakh from a seller at Mandlik Road in Colaba on Wednesday.

The arrested person has been identified as Shaamji Ganesh Chavda, a resident of Ghatkopar.

According to police, they had received information from EIPR officials about fake Canon products being provided to a local hospital as genuine ones. "Along with EIPR officials, we intercepted a car in Colaba and found boxes containing fake Canon products in it. We have seized packed toner cartridges that were being manufactured and sold under the Canon brand name," said an officer from Colaba Police Station.

"We questioned Chavda about the seized products and he could not give any satisfactory reply, after which he was arrested. Chavda has been booked under relevant sections of Copyright Act. We are interrogating Chavda to find out from whom he received the said products and since when he has been selling the fake products," said the officer.
