In a bizarre incident, a 45-year-old thief managed to steal cash from the donation box of a temple, but was later nabbed by locals when he was praying to Lord Ganesha for forgiveness at the very same temple. He was then handed over to the Shrinagar police in Thane.

Accused Bhagwan Pawar, a resident of Vaishali Nagar in Mulund, sneaked inside Ganesh Temple at Wagle Estate in Thane, broke open the donation box there, went behind the Ganesh idol and took Rs 7,999 from the box, and then, before leaving the temple, prayed in front of the idol asking for forgiveness.

When the locals then accosted him, he tried to flee but couldn't escape their clutches.
