Man stabs girl, dies in accident

A rickshaw driver lost his life in an accident when he started running away after allegedly stabbing his 17-year-old girlfriend on the Western Express Highway in Borivali East on Monday evening.

According to the police, the assailant, Anil Dandekar, 23, was waiting for the girl, Sangeeta Dhotre, to get out of her tuition centre near the National Park bridge. When she got out, he walked up to her and repeatedly stabbed her. The girl started bleeding profusely.

Thereafter, Dandekar panicked and took to his heels, only to be hit by a passing vehicle. The incident happened at around 7pm on Monday. Though he was rushed to hospital, he died due to severe head injuries. The girl is undergoing treatment and her condition is stable, said the police.

The police said that the stabbing was motivated by a personal grudge.

Dahisar police have lodged a case of attempt to murder against the deceased. Apart from that, a case of hit and run and causing death due to negligence has been registered against an unknown person. The Dahisar police are on the lookout for the unidentified driver.
