An extra marital affair went horribly wrong as a 35-year-old man smothered his lover, chopped up her body and dumped her severed head in the sea after pretending to take her out to dinner because she was trying to force him to get married to her. Naresh Yadav was arrested by the Vangaon police on Friday.

Sunaina Prasad, 42, a resident of Boisar, was trying to convince Yadav to divorce his wife and abandon his three children. Her husband had died four years back, and that was when she came into contact with Yadav, a friend of her husband. Their proximity grew and Prasad kept telling Yadav to get married to her.

A chopped torso and the head of an unidentified woman was found on the Chinchani beach by local fishermen on November 8. "We had circulated pictures of the woman on social messengers and had pasted the pictures at several places as no missing complaints were registered. After the woman was identified, we tracked her kids and they told us that Yadav had sent them to their native place. We soon nabbed him and he confessed to the crime," said a Vangaon police official.

"The woman was forcing Yadav to get married to her and to settle down with her despite he being married. That lead to the extreme step. He first smothered her and later chopped up her body. He dumped her head in the sea but the high tides brought it back on the shore. A sharp weapon was found on the spot. He has been arrested under sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating further," said Arun Phegade, assistant inspector, Vangaon police station.
