A 42-year-old man from Chembur is facing the heat for sending offensive text messages and letters to a married woman in Kamothe.

According to the police, Aryant Roy and the 35-year-old victim knew each other for several months. The accused would come to Kamothe and follow her while she walked along the road.

“The victim worked at a private company in Chembur a few months ago and knew the accused since. She later joined another company in Navi Mumbai. The accused got her residential address  somehow, and started sending her letters expressing his love. The victim also received SMSes from him,” said PV Huttekar, police sub-inspector from Kamothe police station.

“He threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed it,” he said.

Tired of the harassment, the victim finally approached the police. “The victim submitted letters along with her application. The letters, in Bengali, clearly express the accused’s love for the victim.
We arrested the accused from his residence in Chembur on Sunday evening,” the officer said.

The accused has been booked under sections 354d, 509 and 506 of the IPC. He was produced before the court on Monday and has been remanded to magistrate custody for 15 days.
