A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping an 18-year-girl and circulating her obscene pictures among his friends.
According to police, the duo was in a relationship for six months and they broke up after the accused took the girl to a hotel in Kandivli and raped her. The police said the girl was a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Kandivli while the accused, Akash Kamble, used to visit her father’s shop regularly.
“The two started having an affair about six months ago. But things changed after he took the girl to a hotel in Kandivli in February and raped her,” said sub-inspector Nilesh Bagav, adding that the girl was forced to get into a physical relationship by the man and when she objected he raped her.
“On the same day, the man also took nude pictures of her on his phone. The girl was helpless and when she asked him to delete the pictures, he started threatening her over the next few weeks,” said Bagav.
The accused said that he will circulate the pictures and put it up on social networking sites if she did not heed to her demands.
“The accused demanded cash, gold and silver jewellery from her not to make the pictures public. She gave him Rs20,000 and gold pendants, silver earrings and a mangalsutra from her house out of fear,” said Bagav.
Despite that, the accused circulated the pictures among his friends.
The girl’s brother got to know of this in June and approached the Samta Nagar police on July 10. After medical examinations confirmed rape, Kamble was arrested.
Kamble, who worked as a ticket seller at a private office in Kandivli, has been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 385 (extortion), 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under IT Act 67(a) ( publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act in electronic form). He has been remanded in judicial custody.
