The Tulinj police have arrested a minor boy and his father for alleged thefts at several cellphone showrooms in Vasai-Virar and its adjacent areas. The duo had been conning people after the father was inspired by Bollywood flick Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri. Their conning spree ended after they were captured on the CCTV camera of a shop and landed in the police net.

The accused, Vinod Mahida (34), a resident of Sarvoday Nagar, was picked up along with his 14-year-old son by the police after they were captured on the CCTV camera of Krishna Enterprises, a mobile store in Santosh Bhuvan of Nalasopara East. The duo was traced and the police found 10 cellphones of branded companies in their possession. The police suspect that they have committed several such crimes together.

"The duo would con people by taking away their purses silently. As the father would pick it, the son would come from behind and take it from him. After they were captured on camera, we identified them and took them into custody. They have confessed to their crimes. It seems the father was inspired by film Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri", said a Tulinj police officer.

Bajirao Kalantre, senior inspector at Tulinj police station, said, "The father-son duo was seen taking away two phones from the shop and we arrested them for theft. We are interrogating them as we suspect that they have committed many such offences in the region. We will produce them before the Vasai court."
