Man kills youth over love traingle in Thane

A man allegedly shot a youth dead after finding him with a girl he was in love with in Thane, police reported on Friday.

The incident took place when the victim, Arjun Ashok Tushankar (18), was returning home with the girl late last night after offering prayers at a temple. The accused, whose identity is unknown, approached the youth and shot him from point blank range in the locality of Savarkar Nagar and fled from the scene before midnight, Vartak Nagar, police sub-inspector said. The youth collapsed and died on the spot, Nagar said.

Police suspect,  both the accused and the deceased were reportedly in love with the girl and the two men had a dispute over the issue, Nagar said. The body has been sent for postmortem.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the assailant and it is yet to be determined whether the accused was acting alone or accompanied by someone at the time of the offense.

Offences have been registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act and sections 37(1) and 135 of the Bombay Police Act. Senior police officials visited the scene of the crime and are supervising an investigation.
