A 45-year-old man reportedly killed his two-year-old son, threw the body in a gutter between Byculla and Sandhurst Road railway stations, called up his wife to inform her about the murder, and then went absconding. The JJ Marg Police have recovered the body from the gutter and have launched a manhunt to trace the accused.

According to complainant Samina Qadir Khan (32), a resident of Nagpada, her husband Kadir (40) and son Kaif had been missing since Tuesday. When she could not trace them, she filed a missing persons complaint at the JJ Marg police station around 6.30am on Wednesday.

"Around 9.30am, Samina got a call from her husband. He informed her that he had abducted and murdered Kaif. He also told her that he had dumped the body in a gutter near the tracks between Byculla and Sandhurst railway stations. Before Samina could react, he disconnected the call. Samina then informed the police," said senior police inspector Anil Madvi.

He added that the railway police was informed, after which a search team managed to recover Kaif's body from the gutter. The CST railway police have registered an accidental death case in the matter and sent the body to the hospital.

The Khan family originally belongs to the Beed district of Maharashtra. Kaif, their sixth child, was born after five daughters. "It will become clear why Qadir committed the crime only after he is caught. Efforts are on to trace him.

The probe has revealed that he had called Samina from a PCO," Madvi said.

The police have charged Qadir with sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). His photograph has been circulated in all police stations across the state.
