The city crime branch sleuths on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh, on alleged possession of five pistols, magazines and 30 live cartridges. The man was supposed to get a call from the supplier of weapons from MP, informing him about recipient of the cache of arms. But since his mobile phone's battery drained out, he was wandering on the streets, when he was spotted by a police patrolling team.

The man has been identified as Dinesh Ramsingh Mansari.

According to the police, crime branch officers were patrolling in south Mumbai. Around 11.10pm, near Manama Hotel, opposite General Post Office at P'D Mello Road, the police team saw Mansari, who was wandering in a suspected manner.

"We conducted a body search and found a bag containing five pistols with magazines and 30 live cartridges. During an inquiry, he revealed that Bablu, a friend from his village, had given him the ammo. Bablu had told Mansari that once he reaches Mumbai, the former would call and inform him about the recipient of the consignment," said an officer from Unit VIII of crime branch.

But Mansari's mobile phone's battery ran out and he was unable to recharge it. "Mansari said that he was looking for a charging point, but he could not find any. We are getting more details about Bablu and investigating the reason for smuggling arms in such huge quantity. Mansari is in police custody till April 19," said the officer.
