A famous Bollywood actress who reigned the box office in the 1990s and early 2000s, found herself in a precarious situation recently. An obsessed fan who stalked her over the phone and asked whereabouts of her children, was arrested by the cyber crime police station of the Mumbai police on Wednesday.

According to the police, the actress, who was known for her dance moves and acting skills, was being stalked by a person over the phone. On November 25, she received four SMSes on her mobile number.

Initially, she thought it was just another obsessed fan, however things became serious when the caller started asking details about her two children and used the name of fugitive gangster Chotta Rajan in the message.

He wanted to know details like the school at which they study, as well as other personal details, and demanded money for their safety. The sender also stated that he has trained youth who can enter anyone's house to extort money, and are trained in using bombs and guns.

The name of the actress has been withheld by dna to protect the identity of her children.

Concerned for the safety of her children, the actress, through her personal assistant, registered a complaint with the Mumbai crime branch.

According to sources in the crime branch, acting on the complaint of actress, the cyber crime cell police station at BKC was asked to look into the matter.

The police traced the caller, later identified as Praveen Kumar Pradhan, 23, a resident of Chattisgharh. He was arrested from Mumbai.

"We are questioning Pradhan to ascertain from where he managed to get the complainant's number, and for what purpose he sought details of her children. During interrogation, he confessed to making such calls to other actors in the past," said an officer privy to the investigation.

The police are also verifying whether Pradhan has any links with the underworld. During the investigation, police recovered one diary from Pradhan in which he had written the actress' number. The police have booked Pradhan under IPC section 506 (2) (Criminal Intimidation) and 66 A of the IT Act.

When contacted, additional commissioner of police (crime) KMM Prasanna confirmed the incident, but refused to divulge more details.
