Man held for sodomising 7-year-old

The Deonar police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly sodomising a 7-year-old boy in a public toilet on Tuesday afternoon. The victim narrated the incident to his father, who registered a complaint with the police.

The police have found two witnesses in the case who saw the accused with the victim in the public toilet.

According to the police, Shahnawaz alias Shanu Ashfaque Shaikh, the accused, is a resident of New Gautam Nagar at Hazrat Ali Chowk in Deonar and a casual labourer.

Shaikh took the boy to a public toilet and allegedly tried to sodomise him.

Police inspector Govind Ghambire from Deonar police station said, "There was no full penetration but the act is still considered sodomy according to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (PCSOA)."
Gambhire added that the boy began screaming, broke free from Shaikh's grip and fled from the spot. After reaching home, he narrated the incident to his father.

The police stated that as the father was approaching the police station, he met two persons who claimed they saw the boy and the accused at the public toilet.

According to the police, although the victim did not know the name of the accused, he knew Shaikh's residence. A police team went to Shaikh's residence and he was apprehend.

Shaikh has been charged with section 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 4, 6, 8 and 10 of the PCSOA. He has been remanded in police custody. Police are awaiting medical reports of the accused and the victim.
