A 32-year-old juice vendor from Turbhe who had been raping a minor over last five months, was arrested by the police on Thursday. According to the police, the 13-year-old victim, a native of Solapur, stays with her family at Mankhurd. She used to come to Vashi to sell flowers and that is how she got into touch with Rehman Shakir Khan, who owns a juice shop at Vashi railway station. "Khan met the victim during Diwali last year when she came to sell flowers in Vashi. He took her to an isolated spot behind the power house near the station premises, promising to give her some money and then raped her.
After committing the crime, he also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone else," said Ram Pathare, senior police inspector from Vashi police station. Khan then raped the girl on several occasions taking her to the same place till the last week of March. The parents however were unaware of it, as the victim was scared to tell them about the sexual assaults.
"On Thursday morning, the victim complained about severe pain in her stomach and her parents took her to a hospital. After the medical tests they got to know that their daughter was four months pregnant. It was only then the victim informed her parents that she was being raped for the past several months," Pathare said. Following a complaint registered by the girl's parents, police arrested Khan from his residence on Thursday night. The police have booked him under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was produced before the judicial court on Friday afternoon. "It is still not clear if he has committed similar crime earlier too. We have not found any criminal record of him so far," said another police officer.
