Man held for kidnapping 2-year-old to sell her

The DB Marg police have arrested a 27-year-old man who had allegedly abducted a two-year-old girl from Grant Road and was planning to sell her for money. The accused was apprehended within 28 hours after the case was reported to the police.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Santosh alias Ganesh Vishwekar.

According to deputy commissioner of police, zone II, Sandeep Karnik, on April 6, a 25-year-old woman had lodged a complaint with the DB Marg police claiming that her daughter was kidnapped by some unknown person.

Four police teams were then dispatched to Churchgate, CST, Pydhonie, JJ Marg, VP Road, Dongri, Nagpada, Mumbai Central, Tardeo, Haji Ali, Mahalaxmi and Agripada areas to conduct search operations.

While a team was conducting search operations in Nagpada and Mumbai Central area, they received a tip-off that a man was seen with a little girl near the taxi stand close to platform number 5 of Mumbai Central railway station. The police reached the spot, surrounded the place and apprehended the suspect with the girl.

"On questioning, the accused said he had abducted the girl from a footpath near Kalpana Hotel at Grand Road (E). He also claimed that he was planning to sell her in Gujarat or Delhi and was about to board a passenger train to flee the city. We are questioning him further to ascertain whether he has any criminal background and if he has been involved in child trafficking cases in the past ," said senior police inspector Suresh Hujband from DB Marg police station.
