Man held for demanding sexual favours

The Nagpada police on Saturday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly seeking sexual favours from the 33-year-old wife of a Gujarat-based garment trader. When the victim refused, the accused threatened to disfigure her.

The accused  has been identified as Habib Shamsher Alam Siddiqui. According to the police, Siddiqui and the victim stayed in the same neighbourhood and were known to each other. As per the victim, since the past six months, Siddiqui was trying to be over-friendly with her. On November 7, around 12 noon, when the victim was standing outside her house, Siddiqui came to her and sought sexual favours.

“When the woman warned him, Siddiqui threatened her by saying that he would slash her face with a razor. The victim then lodged a complaint. The police arrested him on Saturday,” said a police officer.

Siddiqui was booked under Sections 354A (II) (a demand or request for sexual favours), 506 (II) and 504 (threatening) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was granted bail for Rs15,000, the police said.
