The cyber crime police have arrested a Nalasopara resident for allegedly duping a man and cloning his credit card. The victim was cheated to the tune of Rs62,500.

The arrested person has been identified as Pratap Jogendra Roy.

According to the police, the victim owns a credit card of a private bank and uses it occasionally. He had done the last transaction of Rs2,099 with it in March 2014. On October 29, 2014, he received a phone call from the bank executive informing him about some transaction of Rs62,500.

"The victim denied of having done any transaction. Since he stopped using the mobile number which he had given to the bank for transaction alerts, he did not get any alerts. He then checked his email and learnt that the bank had sent an alert mail about the transaction," said an officer from the cyber crime police station.

After having learnt that someone has misused his credit card data for fraudulent transaction, he lodged a police complaint.

"Investigation had revealed that the cloned car was used in a shop. We got information about Roy and apprehended him on Thursday, we have seized a writer, four mobile phones, five election cards, four PAN cards, eight driving licenses, two Aadhar cards, 16 credit and debit cards, one swipe machine, one EDC machine, a laptop and passports of a few foreign nationals.
