Police investigation into the fake Indian currency note case has revealed that one of those arrested was also involved in pumping fake notes in Chennai. He was arrested by the Chennai police after which he jumped bail.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has written to the Chennai police to take his custody. The police are also on the lookout for a man from West Bengal, Mohammad Shafiq-ul- Rehman, who they believe was the contact person between Bangladeshi and Indian fake note dealers.

The ATS had arrested three people in the case — Mohammad Suber Moosa Malik Sheikh, Bakhtiyar Alam Namzul Hoda alias Raj and Mohammaad Nazir Mohammad Masiuj Alam from Borivli (West) — and seized bogus notes worth Rs1.36 lakh. Their interrogation led to the arrest of two of their associates Mohammad Ibrahim Mohammad Nasir Shaikh and Mohammad Tariq Anwar.

"Our investigation revealed that Tariq has six cases of circulation of fake notes registered against him in Chennai in 2010-11. He was arrested by the Chennai police and was later granted bail. He had then absconded and has been wanted by the police since. We have written to the Chennai police to take his custody," said an ATS officer, requesting anonymity.
